Third Eye Sun
May 2018
I made Third Eye Sun while I was in my last year of High School. It was at a time in my life where I reconnected with parts of myself that had been dormant since early childhood, receiving messages through dreams, visions and intuition. The initial sketch fell onto the page in one go. While this piece began to come together, my mother was on an Ayahuasca retreat. During that process, she was given a paper and colored pencils to use drawing as a means of connecting with her inner child. Music played in the background, and she recognized a song I’d once shared with her. She thought of me as she drew a resplendent sun over an aloe-like plant, strikingly similar to this painting. The eye in the center of the sun was unconsciously drawn, revealed to me once the painting was finished.
The relationship between the sun and the rest of nature can be seen as a prime example of unconditional love, similar to the one between a mother and a child. A mother radiates love while the child absorbs it to grow, function, and develop. This painting was an accidental doorway to a deeper understanding of the unseen connections that bind us—between mother and child, past and present, the conscious and subconscious. It revealed to me how creativity can serve as a bridge between inner and outer worlds, unlocking wisdom that had been waiting to surface. Through this piece, I came to recognize the silent yet powerful ways we communicate beyond words—through intuition, energy, and the language of the soul.
